This manga started in 2014 just as Naruto was ending & the top 3 spots were muddled in confusion (cos Bleach was just trash) My Hero Academia arrived to stake its claim. It took until 2016 for it to get its onscreen adaptation but its truly worth the wait.

    Synopsis:
My Hero Academia is an homage to Western comics in the DC & Marvel mould. In this world people randomly started developing 'quirks': supernatural abilities & X-men like mutations, till it became more common to have one of these quirks than not. This being an anime of course an industry forms around the new addition to human life & the dream of becoming a pro hero is sparked in countless childrens minds, led by the emergence of the superpowered, charismatic, number one hero: All Might.

    Plot:
Our story follows one such child Midoriya Izuku who in this amazing world is quirkless. Izuku like any good shounen main character does not let that get him down & studies the hero industry & the pros in it developing a book-ish person & a lions determination.

His goal is to enter the UA Hero Academy, Japans most renowned school for young hero hopefuls & a necessary stepping stone to reach the top. A chance encounter with All Might leads to him having a new view of the Hero industry & a desire to take up All Mights mantle & become the new Symbol of Peace. He is chosen by All Might as his successor(its not really a spoiler fam) & with renewed vigour sets his sights on UA & a future as the greatest hero.

    Characters:

The show has a large cast of characters & they have their own personal motivations for wanting to enter the Hero industry. My Hero Academia got a clutch of competent female Heros in training & they do not get played for fanservice as much as other shows in this genre tend to. Characters are not static development is great & the characters are worth investing in, they are all school students so their powers are still developing & its nice to see them become more competent before your eyes. The animation is well-done, these dudes know their action scenes & can truly give you a sense of awe mid-battle, especially if All Might is involved.

    Thoughts:

This is a perfect 3 episode test anime, the first 3 episodes show you what kinda show this is gonna be: its hot-blooded but thoughtful. The Naruto comparison may be a heavy burden to shoulder right now but I truly believe My Hero Academia got next: An interesting main character with room for growth, a rich mythology & competent world-building & the characters are stand outs who get adequate attention. The Second season is currently airing
