  • Film Appreciation Episode 6: Italian Neorealism.

    “Film Appreciation” is back with another episode (this a short one) and this time we’re looking at the Italian Neorealism movement, which lasted roughly from 1942 to 1951. An extremely important and highly influential movement that came after the Second World War, the influences of this movement can still be seen in today’s cinema. This movement unlike The German Expressionism (1919 – 1926) (see Film Appreciation Episode One: The Silent Era Part 1), where filmmakers explored sexuality and emotional uncertainty by looking inside and examining the psychological effects of their environment. Italian Neorealism the filmmakers explored their realities as raw, realistically and objectively as they could.

  • Film Appreciation Episode 5: Hollywood – The Fall and Renaissance in the 60’s and 70’s.

    Film appreciation is back with episode 5, it’s a quick one and this time we’re dealing with Hollyweird in the 60’s and 70’s. Which was an absolutely trying time for Hollywood and the world but it is one of my favourite periods in American cinema. In the 60’s the world, not just Hollywood was going through a change.

  • Film Appreciation Episode 3: The Talkies Era and the Universal Monster.

    Alright I know it’s been a while but “Film Appreciation” is back with another episode and this time we’re looking at the transition to sound and the universal monster, which roughly began in the late 20’s and early 30’s. Don’t get me wrong sound was around at the time but no one was really doing it until 1927 when The Jazz Singer was the first film to be presented as a “talkie”, meaning The Jazz Singer has the privilege of being the first film to fully utilize synchronized dialogue.

    Film Appreciation will be a series I’ll be doing where we basically appreciate film (it’s literally in the name lol). This for me will be kinda of like film school revision and hopefully we can learn some new stuff together, before we can do so though we need to know what is film appreciation and why we as cinema lovers do it and why some of us even study film appreciation.
