tinycouch10’s is back with another 10 must watch films list for y’all and this time it’s all about those set in a cabin the woods or something similar. We’ll have murder, aliens, serial killers, werewolves, and maybe some dying white people…
AAAAANNNNNND let’s start with #10 shall we?!
#10. The Evil Dead (Sam Raimi, 1981)
It’s the 80’s so of course a bunch of young white people are gonna go to a cabin in the woods where they’ll find a demonic book and listen to a tape that will probably unleash hell on earth. That’s exactly what happens in Raimi’s classic horror film.
#9. Dog Soldiers (Neil Marshall, 2002)
A group of soldiers training takes a turn for the worst when they end up being hunted by a pack of werewolves. The film boasts brilliant characters, some amazing dialogue and werewolf gore that puts this film as one of the best in the genre.
#8. What Keeps You Alive (Colin Minihan, 2018)
So a young beautiful lesbian couple decide to go to a cabin in the woods to celebrate their anniversary but one of them turns out to be a complete psychopath and begins torturing the other. An intense film that will make you question if you really know who you married because if you don’t, you might end up fighting for your life in a cabin in the woods.
#7. Eden Lake (James Watkins, 2008)
I recently watched this movie and I literally have no words to describe how it made me feel. The film follows a couple who go to a lake for a getaway only to be terrorized by psychopathic white kids and the fucking ending will have you screaming.
#6. Antichrist (Lars von Trier, 2009)
This depressing and devastating film from one of my favourite filmmakers of all time follows a couple who lose their child and that triggers mental breakdown within them and we watch as they try to deal with the grief and guilt and we end up depressed and scarred.
#5. Funny Games (Michael Haneke, 1997)
This iconiqué film follows a rich family that are taken hostage and forced to play some sick games. The film is smart and cruel and damn brilliant that will stick on you long after viewing. And before you watch the #6 film Antichrist watch this film as it will ready you for what you’re about to experience.
#4. Misery (Rob Reiner, 1990)
Kathy Bates’ Annie Wilkes is the original stan (maybe), the film follows Bates’ character that kidnaps her favourite writer and she forces him to write her stuff. The film is stellar and terrifying and showed us that Bates is a power house. And she breaks his ankles!
#3. Cabin Fever (Eli Roth, 2002)
Mr. Eli Roth basically said let take The Evil Dead and instead of having evil terrorize my young characters, let’s have a flesh eating virus do that. Cabin Fever can be dreadful and it has gore and maybe funny at times but you will not be disappointed at the end of it all.
#2. Extraterrestrial (Colin Minihan, 2014)
This 2014 flick sees a group of friends in a cabin in the woods being terrorized by aliens. The film might not be the best entry on the list, however it does offer us aliens not coming in peace even if the film is full of clichés and not really scary.
#1. The Cabin the Woods (Drew Goddard, 2012)
Here we have a movie that turns everything we know about cabin in the woods movies on its head, and gives us a well written film that’s probably going to be considered as the gold standard to the new generation. Thank you Drew Goddard for this masterpiece.
Okay that’s it, watch these and let me know what you think, be sure to be on the lookout for more lists.
